CARARTBYOXO

As a confirmed motorhead with one foot in the art world and one foot in the wonderful world of cars, much of my work has been "geared" toward exploring my affection for all things automotive.

    CAR ART PROJECTS

OXO USA TOUR Van & Movie - (Ongoing since 1971). This is a fabrication/performance piece involving the custom-building of a 1966 Chevrolet van equipped with a bed, television, stereo, sunroof, ice box, and chuck-wagon style cooking facility. The van was decorated in a metalflake red, white, and blue stars and stripes motif. The piece entailed living in the van while traveling through 39 states over a five-month period in 1971. A one-hour documentation of the trip was made on 8mm movie film, which was converted to video in 1989. The resultant video film, OXO USA Tour has a sound track produced by Billings, Montana Artist Sir Quaxalot (aka Frank Ferguson). The van was completely rebuilt and restored in 1987, and a companion camp trailer/motorcycle transporter was fabricated to match for the one-time use of traveling the Going To The Sun Highway in Glacier Park. In 1998, the "OXOvan" was an invited entry in the Pioneer Street Rods Custom Car Show and won the coveted "Kids' Choice Trophy."

The Shiniest Oldsmobile On Earth - (Ongoing since 1990). Visit my page dedicated to this car art project.

Fastest ArtRod On Earth - (In conceptual progress since 1994). This is another "ArtRod" piece which involves covering the front portion of a 1969 Corvette Stingray roadster with small mosaic-type mirror tiles, including colored mirror tiles in a flame mosaic motif.

The mirrors will blend to ultraglossy black paint at the rear of the machine, thus blending the concepts of "ArtCar" and "HotRod" into "The Fastest ArtRod On Earth."

The Corvette has been customized with the addition of CanAm-style racing bodywork and a racing gymkhana-style suspension system.

It is powered by a 500 horsepower motor with nitrous oxide injection, and is being built as a "matching pair" along with a 1969 Chevrolet El Camino. The two black autos have the same wheels, tires, motors, and flame design.
